Bird Nesting Season can be between the beginning of the year until August. Birds sometimes like to create their nests in the chimney due to the warmth and shelter they implement. This can be dangerous for many reasons.
It is common knowledge that birds nests are made from flammable materials and if these catch fire they can cause major chimney fires. Bird faeces that may fall down from the nest, can also be very dangerous, due to the fact that they can carry bacteria that can lead to a disease called histoplasmosis. In some cases, birds can even die in the chimney which can cause maggots, flies and other pests to infest your property. A way to prevent birds from nesting in your chimney is to ensure a chimney pot is placed on top of your chimney (more information on our Pots & Cowls Fitting page).
All of the above can be extremely harmful, so if you think you have birds nesting in your chimney, please get in touch.
